The Story Behind Parque Explora

A Symbol of Transformation

Opened in 2008, Parque Explora represents Medellín's commitment to education and social transformation through science. Built in the Aranjuez neighborhood — once heavily affected by violence — the interactive museum is designed to make knowledge accessible to everyone, especially children and families. It stands as proof of Medellín's remarkable urban rebirth.

Growing with the City

What started as a science center has expanded to include a world-class aquarium with the largest collection of freshwater species in South America, a planetarium operated jointly with the Planetarium of Medellín, and over 300 interactive exhibits across multiple themed halls. It has become one of Colombia's most visited attractions.

The Aquarium

The aquarium is home to species from the Amazon, Orinoco, and Colombian Caribbean. Visitors can see everything from poisonous golden frogs (Phyllobates terribilis — the world's most poisonous animal) to clownfish, sharks, and rays. The underwater viewing tunnel is a highlight for families.
