The Story

History & Background

A Replica of Rural Antioquia

Pueblito Paisa was constructed in 1977 on Cerro Nutibara, one of the few hills within Medellín proper. It recreates a typical Antioquian town from the early 1900s — the kind of village where most Medellín residents' grandparents grew up. The replica includes a central plaza, a white-washed church, a school, the mayor's office, a barbershop, and a priest's house.

Cerro Nutibara

The hill itself rises 80 meters above the city and is one of Medellín's seven "cerros" (hills). The road to the top winds through lush forest, and the summit offers 360-degree panoramic views of the entire Aburrá Valley. On a clear day, you can see from the northern industrial zones to the southern mountains of Envigado and Itagüí.

A Living Museum

Today, Pueblito Paisa functions as a living museum. Artisans sell traditional crafts, the church holds occasional services, and the central plaza hosts cultural events. While it's a tourist-oriented replica, it offers a glimpse into the architecture and lifestyle of rural Antioquia that shaped Medellín's identity.
